Livingstone defends disgraceful 13.5% council tax increase
Ken Livinstone has stated that the likely 13.5 percent council tax increase for Londoner's is essential in order to pay for extra neighbourhood police and to pay for the Olympics. The increase will mean an extra £35 a year for the average household.
The idea is that teams of police will be deployed on the streets of London's many boroughs in order to cut crime and put the community feeling back into neighbourhoods. You might remember a few years ago that police on the beat were removed, which Livingstone admits was a "tragic mistake". We now have to pay extra for this privilege to be reinstated. What price saftey, eh?
The Mayor even goes on to tell us what we want, without having asked:
"I don't have the slightest doubt this is what Londoner's are prepared to pay for."
No Ken, this is what we paid for before bobbies were removed from the beat years ago, yet you are using it's return to justify tax increases.
