London Olympic tax increases could rise further than expected

Plans by the Government and Ken Livingstone to raise London taxes in order to pay for the 2012 Olympic Games march forward as a limit on the increase remains elusive. It is currently estimated Londoners will pay an additional 38p a week over 6 years. Tessa Jowell could only commit to reviews stating, "I can guarantee we will keep costs under review week by week, and will do whatever we can to bring them back down again."

It remains to be seen whether Londoners will see any real benefit from regeneration and highly unlikely taxes will be reduced once they have been increased.

I have written to my Local council, stating that I am going to reduce my direct debit council tax by the £2 per month they are going to charge me for the London Olympics. I have also stated that I did not vote for either Ken Livingstone or the Olympics.
