Madonna refuses to pay congestion charge

Despite living within the congestion charging zone, thus being eligible for a 90% discount, Madonna has refused to pay. This means that every day she leaves the house by car she's fined £100. In a statement at the Brits Madonna said: "I'm pissed off about the congestion charge. It's ridiculous. I live there and I've got to pay."

It's an odd way to protest at the charge, which growing evidence suggests is doing little for congestion and is hitting businesses hard. Madonna joins around 6,600 people a day who are fined for entering the congestion charging zone without paying. If only she worked at one of the many embassies also refusing to pay the congestion charge on grounds of diplomatic immunity.
